Vick and Eagles Favored over Giants
Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles get the spotlight again this week as they host the New York Giants in NBC’s Sunday Night Football.
The Eagles and Vick made a huge impression last NFL betting week as they looked unstoppable in a 59-28 win over Washington on Monday night. Vick played better than a quarterback has ever played and with one game has gotten himself into the MVP conversation.
Philadelphia and New York are tied for first in the NFC East so the winner of this game will take over the division lead.
Philadelphia is a three-point favorite with a total of 48 at SBG Global.
Michael Vick was so phenomenal last week that people are wondering whether the Eagles can be stopped. We should find out on Sunday night as the Giants have a much better defense than what Washington has. The Giants will try and put some pressure on Vick and slow down the Eagles offense.
The Eagles are 4-0 this season in NFL betting games that Vick started and finished. Vick is the highest-rated passer in the NFL and has not turned the ball over this season.
The Giants were rolling along having won five straight until last week when they laid an egg in a 33-20 loss against Dallas. New York didn’t play well on either side of the ball. The defense gave up 427 yards and the offense turned it over three times.
Philadelphia has won the last four matchups between the two teams including a sweep last season. Both games last season were high scoring as the Eagles won 40-17 at home and 45-38 on the road. Here are more football betting stats for Sunday’s game:
The Giants are 21-7 ATS in their last 28 road games.
New York is 3-11 ATS inits last 14 games in Week 11.
The Giants are 4-1 ATS in their last five meetings in Philadelphia.
The Eagles are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games as a home favorite.
Philadelphia is 2-5 ATS in its last seven versus the NFC East.
On the totals betting front, the 'over' is 4-0 in the Giants' last four games overall. The 'over' is 8-0 in New York's last eight against NFC East opponents. The 'over' is 5-0 in the Eagles' last five games overall and 11-4-1 in the Eagles' last 16 home games. The 'over' is 8-3-1 in the last 12 meetings in Philadelphia.
Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles are coming off a dominating Monday night performance at Washington. They host the NY Giants on Sunday night, owners of an awful Week 10 effort.
Bookmaker.com has the Eagles as three-point home favorites (minus 130) with a total of 48-points. The winner will be in sole possession of first place in the NFC East.
The Eagles (6-3 straight-up, 4-5 against the spread) put a beatdown on the Redskins last week 59-28. The game started with an 88-yard touchdown pass from Vick to DeSean Jackson and only got worse for Washington. The score was 35-0 one play into the second quarter and Vick finished with 333 passing yards and four touchdowns.
Vick’s performance also included 80 rushing yards and two rushing TDs. He’s getting love from the media as a league MVP candidate. Fantasy football players bow to his feet for his 49-point total last week.
Coach Andy Reid is looking like a genius for jettisoning Donovan McNabb (three interceptions last week), but the reality is that Vick would still be on the sidelines if Kevin Kolb played well and didn’t get hurt.
Vick has 11 touchdown passes and no picks this year and the Eagles are 2-0 since he returned after missing three games (ribs). They did fail to ‘cover’ versus Indianapolis two weeks ago, winning 26-24 as 3 ½-point home favorites. Philly is 2-2 SU and 1-3 ATS at home this year.
The ‘over’ is 5-0 in Philly’s last five games, with the offense scoring 32.4 PPG and the defense allowing 26 PPG. Running back LeSean McCoy (shoulder) returned to practice on Thursday in a limited fashion and he’s probable to play.
The Giants (6-3 SU, 5-4 ATS) are still trying to figure out how they lost 33-20 to a formerly 1-7 Dallas team. New York was a big 11 ½-point home favorite, but Dallas played with more emotion under new head coach Jason Garrett and the Giants also had three turnovers (two picks).
The Dallas loss ended a five-game winning streak (4-1 ATS). Quarterback Eli Manning is tied for the league-lead in touchdown passes (19), but is second in interceptions (13). Some of the picks were on tipped balls, but he needs to be more careful this week.
Manning will be missing receiver Steve Smith for the second straight week with a pectoral injury. Tight end Kevin Boss (back) is banged up, but should play. The offensive line is also hurting with center Shaun O’Hara (foot) and left tackle David Diehl (hip/hamstring) out. Fill-in left tackle Shawn Andrews (back) is questionable as well.
This would be a good week to pound the running game with Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs. However, that could require patience as Philly likes to dial up run blitzes early on.
The Giants defense has 25 sacks on the season (ranked eighth) and can be fearsome at times. The problem is Vick has the ability to break containment and make big plays outside the pocket. Defensive coordinator Perry Fewell needs to mix things up and drop more into coverage at times to try to confuse him.
New York is scoring 26.2 PPG (ranked sixth). The defense is 14th in points (21.4 PPG) despite being first in yards allowed (270.2 YPG). The ‘over’ is 4-0 in the last four games and 6-3 this year.
The Giants are 3-1 SU and ATS on the road. They’ve won and ‘covered’ at Seattle (41-7), Dallas (41-35) and Houston (34-10) the last three. They’re 21-7 ATS in their last 28 road games overall.
This is the first meeting between the teams this year, with another matchup on Dec. 19. Philly is 4-0 SU and ATS in the last four, with just one at home. The underdog is 10-1 ATS in the last 11 meetings overall.
Kickoff from Lincoln Financial Field will be 5:20 p.m. (PT) on NBC. Weather should clear and in the 40s.
