Falcons versus Packers

November 27, 2010

Two of the top NFL betting teams in the NFC get together on Sunday in Atlanta as the Falcons host the Green Bay Packers. Both teams have won four straight games overall and each team leads their division.
The Packers are actually tied with the Bears for the NFC North lead while the Falcons are just ahead of the New Orleans Saints in the NFC South.
Atlanta is a two-point favorite with a total of 47½ at SBG Global.
Atlanta has won eight of its last nine games and is averaging 31.5 points per game in the current four-game winning streak. Quarterback Matt Ryan is averaging 275.8 yards with nine touchdowns and only one interception in the last four games.
The Packers are also scoring a lot of points as they are averaging 28.3 points per game in their last four games. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw a career-high four touchdown passes in last week’s win at Minnesota.
Even though the Falcons have the better record, the Packers are considered by oddsmakers to be the better football betting team. They are just two-point underdogs in this game despite the game being in Atlanta. The difference in the two teams looks to be on defense as the Packers have limited their last three opponents to a combined total of 10 points. The Packers are tied with Chicago for the league’s top scoring defense.
The Falcons have been almost unbeatable at home with Ryan at quarterback. They are 18-1 all-time at the Georgia Dome with Ryan as their starting quarterback.
Sunday’s game is just the second time in 18 seasons that the Packers will be visiting Atlanta. The only other meeting was in 2005 when the Packers won, 33-25. The Packers and Falcons did play two years ago in Green Bay as the Falcons won, 27-24.
Here are the football betting stats for Sunday’s game:
The Packers are 4-0-1 ATS in their last five games in November.
Green Bay is 4-1 ATS in its last five games as a road underdog.
The Falcons are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games as a home favorite.
On the totals front, the 'under' is 5-0 in the Packers' last five road games. The 'over' is 5-0 in the Falcons' last five games overall and 4-1 in their last five games as a home favorite. The 'over' is 4-1 in the last five meetings between the two teams.
