Pack big favorite over Motown Boys
The Green Bay Packers cost themselves a win in Chicago because they couldn't get out of their own way. It is a feeling the Lions know all too well.
In Monday night's loss to the Bears, the Packers set a franchise record by taking 18 penalties for 152 yards. Last season, Green Bay was flagged 118 times, an NFL-high, not including eight times in the 51-45 playoff loss at Arizona.
Still, the Packers are 2-1 this season and remain the favorites to win the NFL North.
Detroit has lost their last nine games overall, the last nine against the Packers, and 22 straight road games. That includes a 19-game skid in Wisconsin.
After losing a tough game in Chicago, the Lions hung with Philadelphia before a late rally fell short and were outclassed in last week's loss to Minnesota.
Another 0-4 start is staring them in the face and Easy Street Sports is counting on it to happen, installing Green Bay as a 14½-point favorite.
Green Bay would be more than happy to oblige. With Washington and Miami to follow this Sunday's 10 a.m. PT (FOX) tilt versus Detroit, a 5-1 record and control over the North is a distinct possibility.
The running game (only 95.3YPG) and the penalties have been issues, but the Packers have still produced. Green Bay is fourth and seventh in the NFL football in scoring NFL offense and defense, respectively.
Conveniently, the Lions are dead last in rushing defense and 30th in pass defense.
The ATS numbers don't bode well for Detroit, either. The Lions are 1-7 ATS in their last eight versus Green Bay and 2-6-2 in their last 10 away from Ford Field. Meanwhile, the Pack has covered nine of its last 12.
Bookmaker.com has the 'total' at 45½, the highest number on the board for Sunday's games. Green Bay has gone 'under' in all three of its games this season (coincidentally, the average of these games was 45½) while Detroit's only 'over' was the shootout against Philly.
