Fantasy Football Madhouse a Go-Go
OutofmyHead for Week 5 in the NFL from Stan Lisowski
JOE FLACCO is 20 of 25 for 80% against Denver, but nothing is deep as his dinks have gone for just 175 yards, or 7 yards per pass. Interestingly, his season this year has seen only 1 game where he has had an average of over that. That in comparison with the rest of the league shows no less than 23 starting QBs having a better yards per attempt average than the Delaware Destroyer's 6.3 average. That and 6 interceptions in 4 games make one not-so-wacko for FLACCO.
DAVID GARRARD has hit for at least 60% in all 4 games vs. Buffalo, while MJD has had a TD in each of his 4 career starts against the Bills. If you are waiting for a MIKE SIMS-WALKER appearance, and those of you who drafted him in the 4th or 5th round, surely are, you may get your wish this week. Last time against the Bills, he had 8 catches for 91 yards and a score. Not sure if anyone on the Buffalo side is worth mentioning as they are last in the NFL in passing offense while gaining just over 100 yards per game rushing. FRED JACKSON probably should be on your watch list with LYNCH moving on.
Oddly, PEYTON MANNING has more interceptions, 6, than games played against KC where he has 5 starts. CHRIS CHAMBERS has averaged 3.5 receptions per game vs. the Colts. The Chiefs have given up only 2 sacks this season, so one would think their passing game would be more efficient; especially with the high expectations of Charlie Weiss working with MATT CASSEL. Indianapolis has 7 sacks in their 4 games so far, but 4 have come in their 1 home game. The Colts give up chunks of yardage on the ground, ranked 29th in the league and allowing almost 150 yards per game rushing, so JAMAAL CHARLES and THOMAS JONES are considerate starters this week. Jones in his last regular season meeting with Indy went for 105 yards on 23 carries.
SHAUN HILL has 6 TDs passing in his 3 games against St. Louis, all wins by the way. If NATE BURLESON is back, you may need to take a peek his way as he totaled 11 catches with 120 yards in 2 games last season against them.
In the past 3 seasons, JAKE DELHOMME has a silly 8-1 touchdown to interception ratio against Atlanta, with 4 consecutive games hitting at least 60% completions. TONY GONZALEZ has 21 receptions and an 87.5 yards per game average in this series.
Tampa Bay comes off of a bye facing a Cincinnati defense that got a lot of hype coming into this year and has really been nothing special. In fact, they are dead last in the NFL in sacks with only 3 in 4 games. TERRELL OWENS has 3 touchdowns in 4 career games vs. the Bucs, and while last weeks effort was spectacular, the thought here is that those numbers will not be duplicated again this year.
After the ridiculous and embarrassing performance from this past Sunday night, obviously the Bears lead the NFL in sacks allowed, and in all honesty, it doesn't figure to get better. This offensive line rivals Buffalo for being one of the worst in the league. No Chicago offensive personnel should be in your starting lineups, well, maybe ROBBIE GOULD. With STEVE SMITH crippled for Carolina and JIM CLAUSEN at QB, one gets the feeling that DeANGELO WILLIAMS and JONATHAN STEWART are going to have some more rough times of it on the ground. And this week, it figures to be another tough one going up a dissed-feeling JULIUS PEPPERS and the Bear defense that have played very well so far.
DONOVAN McNABB has a great 9-2 TD to interception ratio in 5 games against the Packers, but has thrown for less than 48% completions against them in 4 of those 5 affairs. In his last matchup with Green Bay, CHRIS COOLEY had 9 catches for 105 yards and a touchdown. The Packers are having some injury issues at linebacker, which won't help their 5.2 yards per carry average to opposing runners. Hello RYAN TORAIN.
Houston is the number 2 ranked rush defense in the league, and given the NY Giants injury woes on the offensive line, their runners should not be looked at this week. If ANDRE JOHNSON returns to play, it should be noted he caught 9 balls for 83 yards in his last venture vs. NY.
Kickers don't get a lot of mention on pages such as these, but it should be worth being aware that for his lifetime with New Orleans, JOHN CARNEY has been very good, making 83% of his attempts with an average of almost 2 field goals per game for the Saints in 107 games. Yet he is owned by less than 15% in most leagues, while going up this Sunday against an Arizona squad that is the worst in fantasy at allowing points to kickers. With rookie MAX HALL taking over under center and the Cards giving up 15 sacks on the year, plus 6 interceptions, the Saint defense might be of the utmost interest Sunday. With the Saints, DREW BREES has 5 touchdown passes while throwing for 79% completions in his games vs. Arizona.
Last season PHILIP RIVERS had a 249 and a 250 yard efforts passing vs. Oakland. ANTONIO GATES has averaged 51 receiving yards per game the last 7 seasons of this series. Run DMC is hurt, so those looking for a stud, you may well remember how much we are a fan of MICHAEL BUSH. Some scribes are even suggesting he gets close to 30 carries Sunday.
JASON WITTEN is supposedly going to be playing some fullback downs this weekend. Just what we WITTEN owners need from him, more blocking opportunities. Dallas is 16-5 in games after their bye and have allowed only 3 100 yard rushers in their last 19 games, so the sight of CHRIS JOHNSON coming in should not deter you from playing this defense. Nor does the slinging of VINCE YOUNG make anyone afraid as the former Longhorn has averaged just 127 yards passing per game this year.
DeSEAN JACKSON had 6 catches in each of his 2 games against the 49ers, averaging 119 yards per to boot. ALEX SMITH is a career 56% passer against Philly. In the last 2 meetings with the Eagles, FRANK GORE has gone over 100 yards rushing each game while pulling in 6 passes.
Not sure about how much RANDY MOSS is going to be of help to the Minnesota situation. The offensive line is not very stout and BRET FAVRE has arm issues, like not being able to throw downfield with very much strength, not to mention the new tendonitis issue. He struggles against the Jets too, with just a 47% lifetime completion percentage against them with more interceptions than touchdowns thrown. For MOSS, you have to go back to the 2007 season to find a game where he had more than 40 yards receiving against them. Don't have a lot of faith in VISANTHE SHIANCOE moving forward, especially this week. He's hurting; the Jets defend the tight end position fairly well, while he figures to lose a lot of red zone looks to MOSS.
